Born in San Bernardino, CA, attended Santa Rosa Junior College (A.A. 1959), Chico State College (A.B. 1960), San Francisco State College, and U.C. Davis (M.A. 1965). His paintings of the late 1960s and 1970s were Surrealist fantasies that drew on imagery of the countryside around the Carquinez Strait. In his later paintings, images became increasingly subordinate to intricate abstract patterns.
