Anthony Montanino Biography
Anthony Montanino’s paintings are in numerous public and private collections both domestic and international, including celebrities Madonna and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Montanino has the ability to work in different styles at the same time and has a well-earned reputation for producing both stunning urban landscapes and figurative studies of musicians.
Trained as a traditional painter, Montanino is now a painter who has accepted digital creation and digital output as tools of his trade, right along with his traditional brushes and oils. A life-long artist well known for his vibrant oil paintings, he now applies his technique to digital art created entirely with his fingers on the screen of his iPad. He both uses the iPad to prepare for oil painting and for digital prints. His iPaintings are a featured monthly artPad Gallery showcased in Sacramento’s arts and culture newspaper, Inside the City.
Montanino studied with Gregory Kondos at Sacramento City College and Oliver Jackson and Jack Ogden at California State University, Sacramento, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Among his numerous awards are the 1985-86 Robison-Witt Memorial Fellowship , the 2002 Sacramento Contemporary Arts Award and the 2009 Sacramento Fine Arts Center Award.
You can view his paintings in Sacramento’s City Hall & County Buildings, the Embassy Suites & Hilton Hotels and Kaiser & UCD Med Centers. He teaches iPainting at the Crocker Art Museum and in his studio at ARTHOUSE on the second floor of the historic Fuller Building at 10th and R Streets, Sacramento.
