About The Artist

Art has always been a big part of my life. In fact I don’t know life without art. My parents told me that I was painting before I was walking. I remember being a kid and losing track of time because I was making something from paper, cloth or some leftover materials that I found.

The whole process of creating objects; planning, working, the touch and feel, and I keep doing it over and over until it’s done. This process gives me satisfaction and a sense of truth and accomplishment like nothing else. I crave this experience and literally don’t know how I would be able to live without it.

My life has been an interesting journey. Sometimes I feel like I have lived many lives because of my travels and the many places I’ve lived. Who we are is a combination of all the places we’ve been, the people we’ve met, the experiences we’ve had. We go through life and life leaves traces on us, molds us constantly and we evolve into an individual. My paintings reflect my story; my past or present stories or the ones I create in my dreams. They all flip in my mind in a stream of images, and it’s a constant race to try to record them. Some paintings will only get painted in my mind. The possibilities of how a painting will end up is endless and I just can’t wait to see the finished outcome.

Acrylic and watercolor are the media of choice for me because of the fast drying process. I continue to learn every day, and my work constantly evolves, as I always have the desire to see things a bit different and in a new way. I like switching between wood and paper, watercolor and acrylic and because I spend so much time in the studio, that helps me to not get stuck. It forces me to see things from a different perspective and breaks my thought process so I can take a fresh approach. Once in a while, I feel like I have to have some more control and need to slow down so I paint realism.

My husband and I and my son live on a small farm near Chattanooga, TN and we love it. My son Kevin, is growing up playing with the animals and working in the garden. At the same time we are not too far from all Chattanooga has to offer. Having that diversity is very important to me as a person and artist. Being in nature and spending time with the animals recharges me and gives me peace and joy. It brings me closer to God. At the same time I love the urban colors and diversity of the city; the scents, noises and culture, which invigorates and inspires me. Another big inspiration is people. I love people. My husband tells me that I eat people… For me people are fascinating. Everyone is so different and uniquely made. What makes people the way they are? Each person leaves an imprint on me, and that deeply reflects my paintings. I collect all these and bring them back in my quiet studio on the farm so I can record them on my canvas.

Last but not least, when I talk about my art, I often refer to it as our art, and that is because what my husband, Curt, does in the work process is as important as my paintings. A big part of an art piece is how it’s all put together. Curt and I plan everything together; materials, frames and the execution. Making the wood canvases, applying the finishes, making frames from scratch, framing the art, transporting it, all of this is done by Curt. There are so many details in the work we do and through the years each of us has found our place. Curt’s mind is in a way, very similar to mine. He is always creating and making something. The difference is that his choice of material is wood, and the things he makes have measurements and straight lines, something so difficult to comprehend for me. It is amazing how both of our abilities merge together in the making of something that brings us both so much happiness. Always create, always work, make something, that’s us.

I am a full time artist working with Curt from our studio in Chattanooga, TN. I received training in art education at The University of Sofia, Bulgaria. My art can be found in many private and commercial collections.
